RE:JESUS - Homework: November 19-20: Matthew 11
RE: You Where’s your favorite place to find rest? What about this place is relaxing for you?
RE: God’s Word The Bible is about what life looks like with God. We are reminded, throughout the pages of scripture, that there is a kind of life with God that is diametrically different than life lived without God. God offers Himself to you and me out of love… we are free to receive His presence or to reject it.
RE: Context Chapter 11 deals with Jesus’ identity. John wants to know if Jesus is the expected Messiah. The response of Jesus is for John (and all of us) to look at the results of Jesus’ ministry. Miracles have occurred that can only be the result of the work of God. Matthew’s purpose in this passage is to point to the truth of Jesus’ divine nature. He is the Messiah and as such deserves our faithful response.
RE: Response The Messianic nature of Jesus is one that brings healing. Jesus has come to seek, save and serve. Hear His invitation: “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
RE: Application How can you respond to Jesus’ invitation today? What would it look like for you to come to Jesus and receive rest? Ask Jesus for wisdom in this. As He leads you, be sure to respond with loving obedience.
