Cast’s Narrative: 1 Samuel 16–1 Kings 2
Personal Notes: Name means “The Lord is my God.” Never experienced physical death as he was carried up into heaven by a whirlwind. Appeared with Moses in transfiguration of Jesus (cf. Matt. 17:1–8; Mark 9:1–8).
Act and Scene: 9th Century B.C. Northern Kingdom of Israel.
Plot: Elijah took the leadership role in battling against the false religion of Baal (chief male deity of the Canaanite nature religions). Many of God’s people were worshiping Baal. Elijah confronted the evil king, Ahab, and called him to a contest that would reflect the One True God. All of Israel came out to witness the contest at Mount Carmel.
